Historical Description

Nazaré Paulista was founded in 1676 by the explorer Mathias Lopes, who built a chapel in honor of Our Lady of Nazareth. The municipality achieved town status in 1850 and in 1944 received the name Nazaré Paulista. The city served as a passage for explorers and later experienced prosperity during the coffee farming period.

Cultural Description

The city maintains vibrant cultural traditions, such as the devotional dance of Saint Gonçalo, expressed as a fulfillment of vows with a special religious character. The municipality celebrates traditional festivals such as the Feast of the Divine Holy Spirit and the Cowboy Festival.
