The Parish Church of Our Lady of Nazareth is the initial landmark of the city of Nazaré Paulista, founded in 1676 by the explorer Mathias Lopes, who built the first chapel in honor of Our Lady of Nazareth. The temple presents an archaic and baroque architectural style, characterized by wood carvings and antique images from Portugal. The original construction dates from 1676, and it was elevated to the status of parish in 1688 with the arrival of the first resident priest.
