
The birthplace of Bragança Paulista, Vargem was created as a district on November 30, 1929. At the height of coffee production, the region housed large producing farms and a station of the old São Paulo Railway. Political and administrative emancipation occurred on December 30, 1991, when it separated from Bragança Paulista.
Ecotourism, mountaineering, and rural tourism. The highlight is Pedra do Lopo (1,780 m), on the border with Extrema-MG, which attracts mountaineers and hikers. The Jaguari-Jacareí Reservoir offers nautical activities and fishing. The city preserves the historical heritage of its coffee farms.
Take BR-381 (Rodovia Fernão Dias) towards Belo Horizonte, passing through Mairiporã, Atibaia and Bragança Paulista, until the exit for Vargem. Distance of 97 km, approximate travel time 1 hour and 20 minutes.
