
Tuiuti was founded on January 20, 1890, on land donated by Januário Pinto for the construction of a chapel dedicated to Saint Sebastian. The name is a tribute to the Battle of Tuiuti, from the Paraguayan War. On May 19, 1991, the population voted for political independence in a plebiscite, and the municipality was created on December 30, 1991.
