
Piracaia's name originates from the Tupi language and means 'fish that appears'. The city developed through agriculture and livestock farming, and more recently through tourism. Its historical heritage includes mansions from the coffee-growing period and 19th-century churches.
Jaguari and Cachoeira dams, water sports, gastronomy, rural and adventure tourism. The historic center preserves colonial mansions and churches. Local cuisine includes trout and traditional country food, in addition to cultural events throughout the year.
Take the Dom Pedro I Highway (SP-065) to km 90, then follow the SP-036. The distance is 85 km from São Paulo, with an approximate travel time of 1 hour and 20 minutes.
