Vargem is a small municipality located in the interior of São Paulo state, in the Bragança Paulista region, nestled in the Serra da Mantiqueira mountains, 97 km from the state capital. Founded as a district in 1929 and emancipated in 1991, the city is known for its natural beauty, including reservoirs, waterfalls, and off-road trails. The municipality preserves important historical heritage linked to coffee production and the São Paulo Railway, with an altitude of 845 meters that guarantees a pleasant climate throughout the year.

Historical Description

Vargem was created as a district in 1929, linked to Bragança Paulista. Elevated to municipality status in 1964, it reverted to district status in 1970 and finally achieved political and administrative autonomy on December 30, 1991. The region's economic history is linked to coffee production in the 20th century and the construction of the São Paulo Railway, fundamental for regional transportation. The Vargem Railway Station, inaugurated in 1884, represents an important landmark of that era.
