TUIUTI

Tuiuti is a charming municipality located in the interior of São Paulo state, 112 km from the capital, founded in 1890 as a tribute to the Battle of Tuiuti in the Paraguayan War. With a population of approximately 6,947 inhabitants, the city stands out for its rural tranquility, preservation of stretches of the Atlantic Forest, and the abundance of water resources with waterfalls, rivers, and springs. Historical Description

Tuiuti was founded in 1890 when Januário Pinto donated a 120,000 m² plot of land for the construction of a chapel dedicated to Saint Sebastian. Originally called Pântano, the locality was elevated to a district in 1902, with the name changed to Tuiuti in honor of the Battle of Tuiuti fought in the Paraguayan War. It only became a municipality in 1991, after almost a century as a district of Bragança Paulista.

Cultural Description

Tuiuti maintains a strong religious tradition with annual festivities dedicated to patron saints, such as the Feast of Saint Sebastian in January and the celebration of Our Lady of Remedies in August. The city preserves historic chapels and churches scattered throughout its rural neighborhoods, reflecting the importance of religiosity in the local cultural identity. Events such as the Pilgrimage of Horsemen in Arraial, with more than 30 years of tradition, attract hundreds of visitors annually.

Natural Description

The municipality is characterized by the significant presence of remaining Atlantic Forest, with diverse fauna and preserved native flora. Its water resources include rivers, streams, waterfalls, and mineral water springs. The undulating topography, with an altitude of 790 meters, provides mountainous landscapes and a mild climate, making the region attractive for ecotourism and outdoor activities.
